LED TV Technology
LED TV Technology
The terms used for LED TV
Technology are LED backlit LCD television or LED TV,
these LED TV terms used by many of the large
manufacturers. An LED TV is an LCD TV that uses LED
backlighting technology rather than fluorescent lights
used in the traditionally known LCD televisions.
The LED technology TV’s come mainly in two styles, The dynamic
RGB LED televisions that can be positioned right behind the
panel, or the others are white edge LED Televisions set around
the outside of the screen which use special diffusion panels to
spread the light right across the screen evenly from behind the
screen.
RGB Dynamic LED Technology is the way of backlighting but
allows some dimming to occur locally which in turn creates
areas of darkness right across the TV screen. This means you
are bale to see much truer black colours and much better and
higher dynamic contrast.
Edge LED Technology is the method of backlighting and allowing
LED TVs to be produced extremely thin. The light is diffused
right across the screen by special panels which produce a
uniform colour across the screen.
Sharp, one of the main manufacturers has also produced LED TV
technology that aligns the LED bulbs on back of the TV like the
RGB Dynamic LED technology, but the downfall is that it lacks
the local dimming of the other LED TV technology.
It is important to understand that an LED TV technology with
backlit LCD TVs are different from the standard LCD TVs
• A greater more dynamic contrast can be got compared with
standard LCD TV technology.
• With the edge LED technology lighting it can be much
thinner. Some of the current models are just over three
centimetres thick.
• Consumption of power is much, much less. In some cases
more than 35% less compared to ordinary LCD TV technology of
the same screen size.
• There is a much less of an environmental issue when
disposed of.
LED TV technology producers can use the LED backlight
technology instead of the standard Fluorescent Lamps used in
nearly all of the LCD televisions. It is very important to know
the difference with this method of backlighting, a standard LCD
panel coming from a true LED display. When a television is
described as 'LED' there can be a vast difference from that of
the self-illuminating display technology. With the use of the
term 'LED TV technology' in the United Kingdom, the Advertising
Standards Authority has made it perfectly clear in recent
letters that it does not object to the use of this term, but
they do require it to be clarified and made completely clear in
any advertising.
An LED backlight does offer a few benefits over the regular
CCFL backlit TV technology, including a lower power usage.
Compared with standard CCFL, there are also be benefits to
colour. However advancements in the CCFL production will
produce wider colour gamuts and lower consumption of power are
possible.
